W czwartym roku funkcjonowania, festiwal Foodies świętuje  tego lata swą  4 edycję. Festiwalowe wydarzenia odbędą się  w Hampton Court Palace, Leeds, Oxfordzie i Edynburgu.

Gwiazdami imprezy są oczywiście szefowie kuchni. W tym roku uczestnicy festiwalu będą mieli okazję spotkać się z Geoffreyem Smeddle z restauracji Peat Inn (zwycięzca nagrody Szef Roku oraz Restauracja Roku 2010 w Szkocji); Mary Contini z restauracji Valvona & Crolla oraz odznaczonym gwiazdką Michelin Tony Borthwickiem z restauracji Plumed Horse, Paulem Tamburini z Hotelu du Vin oraz Stephenem Newmanem z Yo! Sushi jak również z Petem Gottensem z Ardeonaig.

W Festiwalowym Teatrze na gości będą czekały warsztaty gotowania wraz z degustacjami. W programie m.in. inspirowana Hestonem Blumenthalem lekcja z ciekłym azotem, specjalna degustacja piwa przeprowadzona przez energetyczny duet Bena i Toma z dwink.com; lekcje miksologii prowadzone przez najlepszych barmanów Edynburga oraz warsztaty łączenia potraw z winami zorganizowane przez Discover the Origin. Codziennie odbywać się będą również lekcje dla najmłodszych adeptów sztuki kulinarnej.

Ponad 100 wystawców zaprezentuje lokalne, sezonowe produkty zarówno do nabycia jak i degustacji. Popularne miejscowe restauracje tj. Hawke & Hunter będą częstować swoimi popisowymi daniami, najlepsze bary będą podawać drinki na lato, a Veuve Clicquot będzie gospodarzem namiotu z szampanem.

W tym roku dla uczestników zorganizowano dodatkową atrakcję w postaci show komediowego. Stephen K Amos, Brendon Burns, Jon Richardson oraz Tim Vine zakradną się do Teatru szefów kuchni,  aby połączyć gotowanie z kabaretem. Podczas wydarzenia takie gwiazdy jak Abi Titmuss czy „Sabrina, nastoletnia czarownica”, czyli aktorka Caroline Rhea pojawią się na scenie, aby pomagać kucharzom w kulinarnych pokazach.     

Miłośnicy jedzenia będą mogli odpocząć od zakupów i degustacji podziwiając liczne występy na scenie sponsorowane przez Edinburgh Festivals Magazine, a wśród nich muzyka, taniec i kabarety.

– Każde wydarzenie z serii Festiwali Foodies to doskonała okazja, aby podziwiać regionalne talenty kulinarne jak i najlepsze lokalne restauracje oraz poznać świeże, sezonowe produkty. Dzięki Foodies pasjonaci jedzenia mogą spotkać się z najlepszymi producentami, koneserami jak i szefami kuchni z całego kraju– powiedziała dyrektor festiwalu Sue Hitchen.

Pierwszy festiwal Foodies w tym sezonie odbył się w Hampton Court Palace w dniach 29-30 maja i przyciągnął ponad 21 tys. uczestników. W programie znalazły się m.in. pokazy gotowania na żywo i podpisywanie książek przez gwiazdę telewizji Nadię Sawalha i Paula Merretta z restauracji The Victoria oraz występ wspaniałego duetu Katie i Giancarlo Caldesi prosto z programu Saturday Kitchen. Na gości czekały również mini-butelki szampana Veuve Clicquot oraz dania od uhonorowanego gwiazdką Michelin Atule Kochhara z Benares Restaurants.

This August, Edinburgh’s Holyrood Park will host thousands of food loves with a passion for fine food and drink.

On 13, 14, 15 August 2010 Edinburgh’s annual food and drink event, Foodies Festival, will be held in the magnificent grounds of Holyrood Park, to showcase a wealth of fine food and drink, Michelin-star and top chefs demonstration and culinary inspiration from Scotland.

Now in it’s fourth year, the founding Foodiesevent is one of four festivals taking place across the UK this summer, including Hampton Court Palace, Leeds, Oxford, Edinburgh.

The stars of the show are, of course, the chefs. This year visitors will see Geoffrey Smeddle of the Peat Inn, the Scottish Restaurant Awards’ ‘Chef of the Year’ and ‘Restaurant of the Year’ 2010; Edinburgh’s beloved Mary Contini of Valvona & Crolla and Michelin-starred Tony Borthwick of the Plumed Horse; Glasgow’s favourites Paul Tamburini of Hotel du Vin and Stephen Newman of Yo! Sushi as well as Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Food Award winner Pete Gottgens of Ardeonaig.

In the Food and Drink Masterclass Theatres visitors will enjoy hands-on tutored tasting sessions including a Heston Blumenthal-inspired liquid nitrogen class; speciality beer tasting from energetic double acts Ben and Tom of Dwink.com; cocktail mixing classes led by Edinburgh’s top mixologists, and food and wine matching with Discover the Origin. Budding young chefs are treated to Cooking with Kid masterclasses, held daily.

Over 100 exhibitors will showcase local, seasonal produce and specialty food and drink to sample and buy. Favourite local restaurants including Hawke & Hunter will serve taster portions of signature dishes, top bars will serve summer cocktails and Veuve Clicquotwill host the champagne tent.

This year visitors will be treated to a taste of Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival as comedians including Stephen K Amos, Brendon Burns, Jon Richardson and Tim Vine take to the stage in the Chefs Theatre to mix cooking with comedy. During the event Fringe star’s including Abi Titmuss and "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" actress Caroline Rhea will pop-up on stage to assist the chefs with their demonstrations. Food lovers can take a break from shopping and sampling to enjoy live entertainment from the Edinburgh Festivals Magazine sponsored stage which will showcase award winning Fringe performances including music, dance, comedy and kids shows.

The first Foodies event of the season was held in the ground of Hampton Court Palace on May 29 – 31 and attracted over 21,000 visitors.Highlight’s included live cooking demonstrations, followed by book signings, from TV’s Nadia Sawalha and Paul Merrett of The Victoria, as well as a fantastic double act performance from Katie and Giancarlo Caldesi fresh from their appearance of Saturday Kitchen. Visitors enjoyed jugs of pims and mini bottles of Veuve Clicquot and dishes from Michelin starred Atule Kochharof Benares Restaurants.
